Interlocking birch plywood structures

Interlocking Particle Structures (IPS) are geometrically stable assemblies, usually fabricated from plate type elements that interconnected by slotted joints. IPS demountable and their components have the potential to be used reused in different structures configurations. This paper explores applicability of birch plywood panels, which characterized a high surface hardness, for this structural system. Experimental tests were conducted determine mechanical properties plates. Moreover, connections with geometrical investigated two load exposures: bending rotation. The characteristics under exposure influenced orientation face-veneers. For rotational exposure, very small strength stiffness been identified. A linear elastic finite element model is presented shows wide agreement test results. study serves as an initial probe into performance at component level. Various aspects relevant design IPS, such assembly, accuracy challenges regarding digital fabrication, durability, discussed.
